Art Therapy is a form of therapeutic intervention that involves the use of creative self-expression.  When spoken language is difficult or not possible, art has the ability to serve as an alternative method for communication. During an art therapy session, metaphors for self-expression and communication are created and developed through the process of engagement with materials.The art therapist facilitates this process and supports the client in the exploration of creative self-expression.  Art therapy has the potential to improve quality of life, reduce anxiety, promote memory recall, and process meaningful experiences.  The art that is made during therapy is tangible and can lead to further reflection, processing, and satisfaction.
